City Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez fled a press conference at City Hall Wednesday after a reporter tried to ask about his embattled colleague, Ruben Diaz Sr..
“I’m sorry this is [about] drivers licenses and I need to get inside. Thank you, thank you, bye,” Rodriguez said before quickly darting up the stairs of City Hall.
He scheduled the press conference to discuss giving drivers licenses to illegal immigrants.
“Do you think he will lose his committee, do you think he should resign for his homophobic remarks,” asked the reporter, who followed Rodriguez.
The Manhattan Democrat kept walking at flank speed into a part of City Hall where reporters aren’t allowed — and didn’t respond.
Gay rights activists say Rodriguez past support for Diaz disqualifies him as a candidate for public advocate.
“Rodriguez abandoned the LGBT last year by backing Diaz for Council,” said veteran activist Allen Roskoff.
