NEW YORK –The Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club is proud to endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for President of the United States. We thank President Joe Biden for fulfilling his promise to be a transitional candidate and passing the torch to a new generation of leadership. We also wish to recognize the Biden administration as the most pro-LGBTQ+ ever in the U.S.
Harris made history in 2004 by performing same-sex marriages in her official capacity as the Attorney General of the State of California more than a decade before the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage nationwide in the Obergefell v. Hodges decision. Her record of being an early leader on LGBTQ+ rights, her continued work to abolish LGBTQ+ so-called “panic defenses,” and her work to restore marriage equality in California in 2010 following the passage of Proposition 8. Harris has not only received a perfect rating on LGBTQ+ issues, but she has championed abortion rights, rent relief, maternal health care, and climate justice.
As Vice President, Harris has been a fearless advocate for abortion rights after Roe v. Wade was overturned. She fought to ensure voting rights against the GOP’s autocratic agenda to steal our voices and has continued to push the ball forward for progressive change.
President Allen Roskoff, co-author of the nation’s first gay rights bill, said in a statement, “I firmly believe that the LGBTQ+ community will be busting ass to ensure that Kamala Harris is elected as our next President. Kamala Harris has been a champion on the issues, and we’re excited to pound the streets to see her elected.”
The Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club is proud to have the following members of our Board of Governors joining President Allen Roskoff as delegates to the Democratic National Convention:
