Statement of Unity Opposing Rollbacks to Bail Reform
Governor Andrew Cuomo and the New York State Senate continue to push for the vast expansion of pretrial incarceration through budget negotiations that have been upended in an unprecedented way by the COVID19 crisis. They want to subject thousands more of us, our families, our neighbors and our loved ones to indefinite detention by giving judges new expansive powers to remand. We are united in our opposition to this effort and say together:
“No expansion of pretrial detention. No rollbacks to bail reform. No tweaks. No changes.”
