NEW YORK - The Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club announced today that it has sent out mailers opposing Elizabeth Crotty, a candidate for Manhattan District Attorney, for supporting failed law and order policies that have disproportionately impacted Black and Brown New Yorkers.

“Crotty is a marginal candidate, and will be overwhelmingly rejected by voters on Primary Day,” Roskoff stated. “Our club is determined to ensure that voters hold Crotty fully accountable for supporting failed policies of mass incarceration that have blighted the lives of countless people of color.” Roskoff cited Crotty’s opposition to releasing aging prisoners and granting early parole for rehabilitated prisoners, as examples of out-of-touch, far right-wing views that Democrats have increasingly abandoned in recent years.

Roskoff noted that Crotty has accepted endorsements from the Police Benevolent Association and other law enforcement organizations that supported Donald Trump. “It is shameful to accept endorsements from law enforcement organizations that fight to prevent the reform of failed, racially inequitable criminal justice policies,” he said. “True Democrats must refuse endorsements from such organizations.”

Roskoff concluded, “The message of our club’s mailer is that all people who believe that Black lives matter must resoundingly reject Elizabeth Crotty.”

The Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club endorsed Tahanie Aboushie for Manhattan District Attorney. Roskoff stressed that Aboushie is the strongest among several progressive candidates in the race, and would support much-needed alternatives to prosecution and incarceration that District Attorneys in Philadelphia and other cities across the country have already implemented.
