Press Release: Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club Denounces Democrat Cooperation with Far-Right, Anti-LGBTQ American Principles Project

New York, NY, June 10, 2022 — Today, the Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club President Allen Roskoff released the following statement in reaction to information about the U.S. House and Senate Democrats working on legislation with the far-right, anti-LGBTQ organization the American Principles Project (APP). APP repeatedly attacks the LGBTQ community's civil and human rights, recently advocating and petitioning for bills to ban trans girls from participating in high school sports and prevent trans children from receiving necessary gender-affirming care. The group also sought to undermine the American democratic process by encouraging individuals through direct robocall and text campaigns to attend the deadly January 6th Stop the Steal rally and by supporting anti-voting bills.

"The Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club is deeply troubled by reports that U.S. House and Senate Democrats are actively working with the American Principles Project (APP), a rabid, far-right group dedicated to attacking the LGBTQ community.

In an effort to cobble together a bipartisan coalition to push through antitrust legislation aimed at Big Tech, liberal Democrats in the House and the Senate are openly working with a group that has spearheaded legislation targeting the most vulnerable in our community. APP has promoted life-threatening bills segregating and prohibiting trans girls in high school sports and denying trans adolescents necessary and humane gender-affirming medical treatment. Terry Schilling, the extremist president of APP, has even gone as far as to label pediatricians who help trans youth ‘groomers' and pedophiles, a reprehensible scare tactic.

By their own admission, APP is waging war against the LGBTQ community. Democrats who cooperate with them are eroding 50 years of progress for LGBTQ liberty by givings credence to APP’s corrosive, hateful homophobic ideology. Democrats must publicly denounce them IMMEDIATELY and find another way to address Big Tech. It can't be done at the expense of our community and the progressive principles our party supposedly stands for."
