Over 100 supporters celebrated with the campaign Wednesday night, including Allen Roskoff, President of Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club, Shannon Stagman, co-lead organizer of Empire State Indivisible, and members of the community reflecting the diversity of the district.
"I am humbled that so many people from across the district came out to support our campaign, from longtime supporters to new people looking to get more involved in the political process, " says Bunkeddeko. "Central Brooklyn consists of a mosaic of different communities, and it's inspiring to see such a diverse coalition of people come out tonight to help kick off this campaign. We need to come together right here at home to fight for our shared values in Washington and to defeat Trump in November."
With endorsements from Zephyr Teachout, the Arena PAC, Empire State Indivisible, LAMBDA Independent Democrats, Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club, and NYPAN, the Bunkeddeko campaign is heading into petitioning season with strong grassroots support. He narrowly lost his previous challenge to incumbent Yvette Clarke in 2018, winning 47% of the vote. Through a career in public service, Bunkeddeko has tried to pay forward the sacrifices his family, who fled civil war in Uganda to start a life in America. He previously served on Brooklyn Community Board #8 where the people of his neighborhood have been turning for help because their elected representatives have neglected the affordable housing crisis.
