The red-blue divide was wider than ever as Republicans and Democrats gathered on Monday night just four Midtown blocks apart.
The Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club convened at Butter to honor Michael Avenatti, but Stormy Daniels’ lawyer was a no-show, having been arrested for domestic violence against a 24-year-old woman who claims to have dated him. Avenatti, who denied allegations that he committed domestic violence, posted bail and was sprung from the pokey but did not make it to the event.
“Michael Avenatti has asked us to postpone the receipt of his award until June as he is in Los Angeles attending to clearing his good name,” club president Allen Roskoff said.
Eve Ensler, who wrote “The Vagina Monologues,” Bronx Councilman Ritchie Torres, Broadway star Danny Burstein, and Rep. Jerry Nadler were honored before a crowd that included Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul, Council Speaker Corey Johnson and former mayor David Dinkins.
Meanwhile, at Del Frisco’s, Steve Bannon hosted a party for “Trump’s Enemies: How the Deep State Is Undermining the Presidency” by Corey Lewandowski and David Bossie.
While most guests were limited to beer and wine, Rudy Giuliani, who walked in with Bernie Kerik, was overheard ordering a double Macallan on the rocks.
Spotted in the crowd were Lally Weymouth, John Catsimatidis, Monica Crowley and Lou Dobbs.
Bannon told me that 2019 will feature the most vicious, dirty politics since 1858, the year of the most infamous floor brawl in Congressional history, with pro-slavery Democrats battling against anti-slavery Republicans.
More than 30 lawmakers joined the melee, and the unfortunate William Barksdale, a Democrat from Mississippi, had his hairpiece ripped from his bald pate.
