Joint Statement from Lambda Independent Democrats of Brooklyn & Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club

Lambda Independent Democrats of Brooklyn and Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club condemns the unauthorized use of our logos in a recent campaign mailer distributed by slumlord and Republican candidate for City Council in District 47, George Sarantopoulous. The mailer, filled with hateful and divisive rhetoric, misrepresents our organizations, values, and what we stand for. 

Our logos and our names stand for inclusion, equality, and pride. Any attempt to appropriate them in service of intolerance is a violation of basic human rights and the LGBTQ community we represent. We will not allow our identities to be weaponized against marginalized people.

Predictably, instead of offering solutions to make this a safer, more affordable city for all New Yorkers, George is choosing to pit marginalized communities against each other. That's no surprise, though — his donors are the same ones propping up bigoted and hateful campaigns, citywide. 

We proudly endorsed Kayla Santosuosso for City Council because she shares our deep commitment to protecting LGBTQ  and all New Yorkers, standing up for human rights, and building a Brooklyn and city rooted in compassion and justice.

We call on all candidates to reject hate in every form and to focus on uplifting and uniting our communities—not dividing them through fear and falsehoods. Please consider volunteering with us on November 2 in support of Kayla Santosuosso for a more equitable and affordable District 47.
