IV. DISCUSSION ON THE STATE OF ABORTION IN AMERICA

Danielle Castaldi-Micca – Vice President for Political and Governmental Affairs, National Institute for Reproductive Health spoke to the Club regarding the implications of the recent US Supreme Court decision in the Application for Injunctive Relief in the Whole Woman’s Health et. al. v. Austin Reeve Jackson, Judge, et. al. 

 Speaker discussed. the likelihood that several states will adopt similar laws before the end of the year to create

Locally – a) pass Constitutional amendment to prevent discrimination based on decision regarding pregnancy, b) support legislation to create a state fund (based on tax period request) to cover abortion services; c) support legislation to require insurance parity of abortion coverage with pre-natal care; d) she also suggested boycotting corporations that support candidates that sponsor/support legislation that restricts abortion rights (ATT, Famer’s Insurance, Time Warner – for example) e) Congress should get rid of the Hyde amendment (House recently passed a budget bill without it) and should pass a law providing abortion rights.; f) Support (age appropriate) sex education in all grades K-12.
