Sandy5 Briefing: National and Local Implications of Superstorm 5 Years Later

Sharing impacted stories, lessons-learned and demands of New Yorkers ahead of October 28 anniversary NYC mobilization

New York, NY -- On Monday, October 16, ahead of the #Sandy5 anniversary march, a diverse coalition representing over 75 global, national and local organizations, will hold a background briefing to discuss three key areas where national, state, local officials have failed to respond adequately in the five years since Superstorm Sandy. These areas include: 1) the lack of application of pivotal lessons learned after Sandy as shown by the response to Hurricanes Harvey, Maria and Irma; 2) the ongoing unmet needs in New York’s hardest hit neighborhoods—disproportionately people of color and low income—with over a thousand families still without adequate housing; and 3) the necessity for dramatic climate action by elected officials at all levels. The coalition will also discuss plans around the October 28  mobilization in New York City to underscore these issues.
